I've got Relay on the brain - which is true most of the time actually.

Team Mitchel had another good year, the softball tournament and fun run went well and we brought in a lot of money once again! Our team took top fundraising team at the Relay this year - our first time ever. I don't have a final $ amount, but I will get that and post it on here. I know it was over $4,000:)

My role with Relay this year will change a little, I am stepping out of the co-chair role and into the Publicity Chair role.  I sent a memo out to several Plymouth County newspapers/towns asking them to help us get the word out on Relay 2012.  I will also be working with the news stations for that advertising once we get closer to Relay.  I have a few ideas for how to get people more involved in Relay - first getting a float in the Christmas parades this year, also doing a "Paint the Town Purple" event in Remsen and possibly other communities some time in May.  The goal is to keep Relay on people's minds all year long.

Relay 2011

Plans for Relay 2011 are in full swing!!!  I am so excited for another fun year of Relay planning.  Our team has two fundraisers coming up.

May 14 - Softball Tournament
May 21 - Fun Run

This May is going to be soooo busy!  Not only do we have the fundraisers, Jake and Kim graduate too.  But we'll get through it, it's kinda fun to be busy sometimes!

If you ever have any questions about Relay or our fundraisers, please call me!  I'm on my cell all the time pretty much except at work but number is 548-7666.

Tell all your friends, relatives, co-workers about our Relay, and our fundraisers!  If we are excited, they will be too!

Revamp the blog!!!

I can't believe how long it has been since I updated this blog!  What a slacker!!! :)

Planning for Relay For Life 2011 is underway as you know, and I will be co-chair for the event again this year which is a lot of fun and a lot of work, but it's so worth it!  And I enjoy it!

I will gather up some info and get this blog up to date - thanks for playing your part for Team Mitchel.

We're only days away from the Relay....it has really snuck up on me with the planning for everything else going on. We are planning to have the "Rockin' for a Cure" campsite theme so the guitar hero setup will be at the campsite, should be pretty sweet! If you would like to buy a luminaria bag, they are $7 this year and I have several so let me know how many you need and I'll get them to you. The Relay starts at 6 with the opening ceremony and laps for survivors/caregivers, then the fun laps are 7:15 - 11:30 with the relay wrapping up at midnight. The fun laps this year are: Balloon walk, cookie lap, hat lap, send cancer packing lap (wear backpacks), Relay Idol (sounds fun!), Hot Potato lap and Power of Purple Lap.

The fun run is this weekend (Saturday) and we are really looking forward to that. We're starting in Le Mars then to Alton, then to Germantown, then to Paullina, then to Marcus and the finish line is in Remsen at Charlie's. The forecast for Saturday sounds great so thank the Lord for that!

We have raised over $2,500 thusfar from the rummage sale and softball tournament so we are doing great with fundraising. Let me know if you have any questions, hope to see everyone Saturday at the Fun Run!!! and next Friday at the track!!!

P.S. Below are pictures from the tournament...there are more pictures on my Facebook page if you are my friend or add me to see them!

This is the trophy Jake made in shop, he did an awesome job!!! (sorry, I can't figure out how to rotate the picture!)

The picture below is of the winning team, Team Colling, they recently lost a family member to cancer so it was touching to see them win and they were so proud!

2009 Relay plans are underway...

I had my first meeting tonight for the 09 relay, they highlighted some of the changes for our relay this year, including ending events at the track at midnight and holding a candlelight vigil at the hospital, I guess they just light a bunch of candles and you can go there to pray and honor your loved ones affected by cancer. The reason they want to do that is to hopefully keep people at the track longer and to attract more people. They'll just do the overnight "fun walks" in the evening hours rather than the overnight hours. I think it will be a good thing for Plymouth County.

I got lots of handouts and everyone's team member packets. I was wondering if we could all get together as a team some weeknight soon and discuss fundraising for this year, to hopefully include a softball tournament and other ideas. I want everyone's input on our fundraising so if we could plan to get together for a pizza supper somewhere, that would be great. And then we could go through the team member packets together and answer any questions anyone has. I just think it would be great to get together for a fun time to get some planning underway. Let me know if there is a best night of the week for you and we'll get something planned.

Austin won a door prize, he went with us and got a Relay duffle bag, so that was fun. I have lots of fun stuff to share with everyone, hope to hear from EVERYONE soon!!!

Later,
Shelly
